A lot of people say that going to certain influencers blogs and Instagram accounts make them feel bad about themselves. I don’t think they’re trying to intentionally hurt our feelings on purpose. When influencers blog about their lifestyle they’re usually not trying to make anyone feel bad.
We hurt our own feelings and make ourselves feel bad when we see their curated lifestyles and then try to compare our lives to theirs. I have a few lifestyle bloggers that I love to follow, but I will admit their influence is currently above my pay-grade.
At the same time I don’t want to judge them harshly by how they spend their money because we all value different things, and we all spend appropriately to our values. I also think we tend to dis-empower ourselves when we say that influencers and their instagram accounts hurt our feelings and make us feel bad. It sounds very defeatist.
They’re not making us feel bad. They’re just being themselves and doing what they want. It’s not the influencer’s job to manage our emotions and mindsets. That’s our job.
